The 96 houses in the estate (there are no apartments) are of five main types, from 2-bedroom bungalows to 4-bedroom 3-storey townhouses, with a number of detailed variations. All have their own garages, some integral, some en bloc. Many of the town house garages are double. All properties have their own gardens and have access to the shared amenity land.
Brookscroft has a ‘semi-rural’ feel. It is surrounded on most sides by public footpaths, bridle paths, or private woodland. The terraces meander down the sloping site between the trees which were preserved when the houses were built. It was designed as a family estate, with traffic largely separated from pedestrians. For this reason, some houses are accessible on foot only. The amenity land includes grassy areas, shrub, and around 150 trees.
Despite the variety of the houses, there is a strong architectural unity which adds to the attractive appearance. There is a map of the estate here and a photo gallery here.
There are two primary schools within easy walking distance and Forestdale shops are 10-15 minutes’ walk away (depending where you are on the estate). Selsdon Wood is less than 5 minutes away from the southern end of the estate, either via the footpath along the top of the estate, or along Yew Tree Way, the bridle path which marks its western edge. There is a good bus service linking Brookscroft to Croydon and to the Croydon tram system.
